| It is located north of Egret Village of Afyonkarahisar Province. Maltepe Höyük is included in the EBA III settlements by L. Lloyd and J. Mellaart. At present; it is used as a military cemetery. Around and on the foothill; there are pits opened by the treasure hunters. The jug exhibited at the Afyon Archaeological Museum (Inv.No.E.766) was found in a field adjacent to mound. It is red-reddish brown washed and burnished. Interior surface is washed in the same color and decorated with thick incisions originating from the center. Between those incisions there are incrustations with dots. A gray burnished depas decorated with vertical and horizontal incision grooves was recovered. The rim and one handle are missing. Interior incisions expose that it is wheelmade. It is a significant settlement; probably housing a major occupation site from EBA. The site was re-documented in 2005 during the fieldwork of Phygrian Valley Tourism Zone Project. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
