Location: It lies east of the mosque in Suludere (Çiradere) Villge; 8.5 km northeast of Bogazkale District of Çorum Province.
Geography and Environment: It is a small settlement located on the southern bank of a small stream cleaving the rocks.
History:
Research and Excavation: It was introduced by R. Hachmann. The material collected in 1954 was analyzed by W. Orthmann in detail.
Stratigraphy: One group among the pottery recovered is; although uncertain; dated to the Chalcolithic Age. The stratification of the mound would be best identified by an archaeological excavation.
Small Finds: Pottery: The prominent group of ware dated from the Late Chalcolithic Age-EBA I by R. Hachmann and W. Orthmann is the ware which has a black exterior and brown interior surface; i.e. both surface colored ware. Sherds of big vessels produce of this ware were recovered from the surface. Also; lots of sherds resembling the footed part of the fruitstands of Çiradere were found. They are also washed in brown. This type is comparable with the Chalcolithic Age fruitstands of Alacahöyük. Vast majority of the sherds recovered from Çiradere belongs to the last phase of EBA just like the red washed ware. There are interiorly black and exteriorly brown sherds. The last major group of the ware collected from the surface is the painted ware known as Çiradere ware. Their paste is tempered with fine grit. The clay is reddish. Painting decorations were applied on an orange brownish surface or a yellow colored wash. They are well fired. Decorations are usually seen on handled cups with flat or unrolled rims and deep vessels. In open vessels; the painting decoration was applied as thin bundles on the interior surface; and as wide bands around the rim in the same color on the exterior surface. In restricted number of vessels; the bundle decoration was applied right below the line of the rim on the outer surface. A sherd was completely painted in red except two knobs. This kind of painting decoration is observed at the cups of Kültepe and Alisar. Another sherd bears brown wash in the upper part and impressed decoration in the lower part. Nail impressed decoration is common. Also found are sherds of a series of big impression decorated vessels applied with finger. Decorations applied by a sharp tool are also seen.

Interpretation and Dating: Çiradere; even tough not excavated yet; is a significant settlement. Its surface finds were published by R. Hachmann in detail. When it is excavated; the origin and progress of the ware known as Çiradere ware would be clarified.
