Survey
Period:

Location: It lies 1 km northwest of the Bakimli (Mamo) Village; west of the Almus District; northeast of the Tokat Province. The year the survey was conducted; this field was owned by A. Karaca.
Geography and Environment: The slags originating from the melting of the copper ore looks like a small flat hill.
History:
Research and Excavation: It was discovered in 1976 during the Tokat Almus survey by MTA (Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration).
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: Pottery: The presence of a burnished; sand tempered; coarse pasted red sherd from EBA found by E. Kaptan inside big-sized and matt slags at least indicates that this melting area was used during EBA. The residue of small slags on the interior surface of this sherd proves its relation to the case. Other: Fragments belonging to the walls of a smelting kiln found inside the slags provide an evidence for a smelting kiln in this area. Some slags stuck onto terra cotta fragments is evidence. The melting process created slags with traces of green copper oxide. Those traces were weighed for analysis. The fact that their densities are very low proves that the metal workers were very talented. Depending on the extremely small size of the silo for copper slags; E. Kaptan states that the smelting has only been performed once.
Remains:
Interpretation and Dating: A future excavation in the area where the slags were found could reveal a smelting kiln in full detail. Although E. Kaptan states that the copper ore was perfectly smelted in this area; he did not mention the distance of the ore bed; he did though pointed that the miners and ore-processors did not share the same working environment. Kaptan also pointed out that the cemetery of Horoztepe Dere Mahallesi belonging to EBA is near this site and that the metal finds from that cemetery may be related to the metal workshop in this location. It is not stated to which phase of EBA the workshop was dated.
