Research and Excavation: The site was discovered in 1994 during the Aksaray Project; when the Aksaray; Nigde; Nevsehir Provinces were surveyed under the direction of U. Esin of the University of Istanbul; Department of Prehistorical Archaeology and the supervision of S. Gülçur. Small Finds: Chipped Stone: The Aceramic Neolithic Period at this site is represented with chipped stone finds. Scrapers on flakes are the most common tool type. This is followed by backed blades and used; retouched blades; scrapers on blades; points; notched blades; scrapers on cores and heavily used/retouched flakes. Most of the finds were obsidian; although a few flint cores and a few flint nodules were found [Balkan-Atli; in press].
Remains:
Interpretation and Dating: The chipped stone tools collected during the surface survey at the Sirçan Tepe site are made using the same techniques as the tools from other Aksaray sites such as Asikli Höyük; Musular and Yellibelen. Byblos-like points and other points made with pressure flaking date to a period later than Asikli but contemporaneous with the sites of Musular or Yellibelen [Balkan-Atli; in press].
