| The mound lies northeast of Çanakkale and of Gelibolu; 4 km southeast of Bolayir; and 3 km south-southwest of Demirtepe village. The middle-sized mound with a height of 8 m and dimensions of 100x60 m; lies on the east portion of Sabandere valley. It lies on natural ridges. It is surrounded by fields on the west and southwest; and the sea can be seen beyond them. A stone paved road passes from between the fields on the plain and the slope in the east-west direction. It is discovered by M. Özdogan in 1982. The surface material has yielded potsherds with Kumtepe I b (end of Late Chalcolithic Age) and Troy I (EBA) characteristics. Özdogan claims that this mound is probably the actual Kilya settlement from which the typical Kilya idols are known. Late Antiquity and Medieval Period sherds are collected from a quite extended area on the mound. The location code is G 4 / 1. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
