Location: It lies approximately 200 m north of Baspinar-Çavdir road; northwest of Baspinar Village; 2 km southeast of Karamusa Village; south-southeast of Tefenni District of Burdur. Immediate east of the site there is a well spring called Kirkgöz.
Geography and Environment: This mound; discovered by M. Özsait; is continually eroding. The mound lies beside the spring at the northern skirts of 1;666 m high Mount Düvenkaya. The current height of the mound is 5 m Özsait notes that there was continuous habitation at the site from the Late Neolithic Period on through to the Iron Age. In the photography published with the survey report; the mound appears to be small and flat looking.
History:
Research and Excavation: The mound was researched in 1974; 1981 and 1984 under Özsait's direction. The mound was mentioned in the Burdur Province Archaeological Logbook; although no research appeared to have been done there. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Stratigraphy: The surface finds have been assigned to the Late Neolithic-Early Chalcolithic Periods as well as the Early Bronze Age. The Early Bronze Age settlement at the site seems to have been long and large. Habitation during periods that predate the Early Bronze Age are concentrated on the northern part of the mound. Iron Age finds were also found.
Small Finds: Pottery: The hand-made; thin walled; red slipped ware found at the site has been assigned to the Late Neolithic-Early Chalcolithic Periods [Özsait 1986:fig.10].
Remains:
Interpretation and Dating: A differentiation between the Late Neolithic and Early Chalcolithic ceramics collected from the mounds in the Lakes Region has similarly not been made at this site. Karamusa is collectively assigned to the Late Neolithic-Early Chalcolithic Periods.
