Village:
Bükdere

Location: It is located 2 km north of the Bükdere Village; which is 24 km northeast of the Kepsut District. It was formed on the eastern slope of the Daricukuru Brook which comes from the Bukdere Village; flowing through a deep canyon valley as a branch of the Susurluk Creek. It can be reached from the Balikesir-Kepsut road or following the routes of Susurluk-Yaylacayir-Serceören and Mustafakemalpasa-Catalagzi-Kansiz-Bükdere. The latter is not recommended unless inevitable.
Structural Properties and formation : The cave is located on an area which was formed on the Pliocene denudational surfaces breached by streams like deep canyons. This type of surface as observed in the vicinity of the Bükdere Village elongates at altitudes of 400-700 m on the Permo-Triassic; Cretaceous; and Miocene units. It is a hydrologically abandoned active-semiactive cave. It is full of dripstone ponds with very interesting appearance and formation. The depth of these ponds which interconnect the space of the cave diagonally; reach to 5 m. In the final zone; mainly there are stalactites; stalagmites; columns; wall dirpstones and helictites. During the seasons when the ponds are filled with water; there appears a full siphon 400 m after the entrance. This siphon becomes accessible as the rains lower. On the other hand; the siphon in the final zone is closed throughout the year. Ulupinar which is a wet cave houses an underground creek which runs all seasons.
Research History: It was explored and mapped by MTA; and published in 1997.
Findings: There are archaeological ruins of a wall in front of the cave. Bats are heavily colonized in the depression hole almost in the mid-section of the cave; but they are very rare between that section and the entrance.
