It is located 2 km south of the Black Sea coastal line in the Kumbaba Quarter; 2 km northwest of the Ahmetli Village; 500 m east of the Mesrutiyet Village; west of the Sile District. It was formed within the Upper Cretaceous aged Ahmetli limestones. It is a dry and horizontal cave. It is also known as "Magaraalti". Depending on the leakage of water due to a crack in the wall; grasshoppers; bats; spiders; transparent snails; and scorpions were seen in the room in the middle of the cave according to A.T. Ertek.
Location:
Structural Properties and formation : Cave is formed in aged Ahmetli limestones in Upper Cretaceous. A fault with a slope of 60 degrees between Upper Cretaceous formation and Ypresien marl (Lower Eocene) over it in Jura period was discovered by Baykal-Önalan in 1979. The limestones have moved upward along the fault layer [Gokcek 1980]. The mouth of the cave lies 25m above the branches of Turknil Creek to be suggested to abrase the cave. From the mouth to the end, the base is covered with an accumulation of wet soil moved into cave externally. The first 30 m of cave is a gallery whose base comprises the limestones blocks 25-40 cm in lenght. Cave is aged in Plio-Quaternary period. Hydrology: It is a dry cave. Meteorology: According to the surveys, while the temprature in the mouth was calculated as 22 degrees centigrade, in a room at 20 m in depth it decreases to 14 degrees centigrade (23 4.1992, 16:00).
Research History: Cave known by villager was firstly surveyed by Kasar, N. in 1987. After defining the location, they named it as "Magaraalti Cave". Then, Ertek and his team was the first mapped the cave.
Findings: The jackel family lives in the cave where there are no any branch, chimney or any air current. Grasshopper, brown bat, brown spider, brown scorpion and transparent escargot was encountered in a room at the middle part of the cave due to a water leakage coming from the fault on wall. Water inflowing to cave in a time of abrupt rain is dangerous so be careful.
