Location: It is located near the town of Topçam of Mesudiye; in the south of Ordu along with the cave of Topçam. They are situated in a region fragmented by the steep canyons of Melet River that empties into Karadeniz; just east of Ordu. Çagman Cave is located 150-200 m southwest from Topçam Cave. |
Structural Properties and formation : Çagman and Topçam caves which belong to the same subterranean system; were developed inside a fault line in E-W direction. Both passage type fossilized caves are at a location near the valley basin. Çagman Cave was developed on two fault lines that cross each other. The main hall is accessed through a 5 m pit that developed on the fault line in N-S direction inside the cave which has a narrow and low entrance. The hall which measures 7x10 m has a basin covered with debris and blocks. The walls are covered with bacon rind type dripstone formations as well. There is a storage consisting of pebbles; sand and clay reaching a height of 4 m in the east section of the cave. The cave ends with a narrow; and declining gallery in the east section. |
Research History: It was researched by the Karst and Cave Researches Unit of the Geological Studies Department of MTA General Directorate; and published in 2004. |
Findings: There are a few bats. |
