Chronological Tables
Explanation: Three distinct cultural periods have been identified at Hacilar. The topmost, Early Chalcolithic, is represented by layers I and V, while the Late Neolithic is represented by layers VI and IX. The oldest cultural period lies atop virgin soil, and has been attributed to the Aceramic Neolithic by Mellaart. R. Duru, who carried out several probes around Hacilar while looking for its necropolis, suggests that Hacilar's Aceramic phase should actually be attributed to the Early Neolithic because he found pottery fragments on red painted floors which were thought to be Aceramic Neolithic. Sample P-315, which has a date of 6990±121, is a combination of samples P-315 and P-315A (7047±221 and 6926±95). Mellaart (1970) labeled sample P-316 with a lab number of P-326B. The same sample was shown in layer IIB by Ralph and Stuckenrath (1962). Three dendrochronological samples, which are part of sample number BM-48 published by Mellaart, were taken by Cornell University from layer VI.
