Location: This site lies 13 km southeast of the city of Bayburt; west of the village of Gez; by a ridge at the base of Mount Sariçiçek; on the northwestern flank of the Gez Stream which eventually empties into the Çoruh River. Mount Sariçiçek is 1.5-2 km from the Çoruh River and the Bayburt-Erzurum highway which follows this river.
Geography and Environment: This ridge yielded some scattered basalt tools which were probably transported to this location by natural processes. It is reported that this type of basalt is foreign to this area. Although the closest basalt source is the Çoruh River bed; it is not the same quality as the fine grained; good quality igneous rock that these tools were made from. The better quality basalt probably came from further upstream.
