| It is situated 2 km northeast of the Laleli Village, 30 km west of the Pazaryolu District in Erzurum. The Çoruh River surrounds the fortress running from northwest to southeast. It is one of the nearest fortresses to the Çoruh River identified in the region. It has an altitude of 1380 m. To the north runs the Ispir-Bayburt motorway. It overlooks the plain. Although the Medieval Age walls composed of rubble stones to the north of the fortress have been damaged to a great extent but they can be traced on the ground level at sections in parallel to the bedrock. The height of the bedrock on which the fortress rests is approximately 30 m. Frequent illicit diggings contributed to the destruction of the structure. Remains of the Early Iron Age wall were found 100 m east of the fortress in an area, which is used as an apple orchard at present. Surveys indicate presence of ceramics dating back from the Early Iron Age to the Middle Age in the fortress. |
