It is situated 2 km north of the Atadami Village in the Diyadin District of Agri. Built with andesite stones, it is a small fortress with an oval plan. The west and east walls of the fortress are still traceable. Terrace walls were built in accordance with the topography of the land. To the southwest are some building remains. Since the walls of the fortress and of the settlement have been mostly demolished, the plan is uncertain. However, the mud bricks traceable at some sections suggest that the superstructure of the walls and other buildings were of mud walls. The fortress is rich in water resources, and 200-300 m to the south of the fortress is the Kurt Reservoir. No ceramic finds are available inside and around the fortress. However, it looks like the 7th century fortresses. It appears that this small fortress was an administrative center responsible for the maintenance and repair work of the Kurt Reservoir and for the safety of tens of thousands of ovine in the vicinity. Thus, both the fortress and the reservoir should have been built around the 7th century BC. |
