There are three tumuli approximately 3 km north of Kirklareli. These three tumuli at Asagipinar Mevkii were called Tumuli A, B and C. They are on a straight line. The Tumulus A is situated to the south. The investigations on tumuli in the Thrace Region were initiated by A.M. Mansel of the Turkish Historical Society in 1936, and lasted until 1940. The Tumulus A that was excavated in 1938 consists of a passage and a grave building with a round grave chamber of 6.8 m in diameter covered by a Mycenean dome of stone circles that become narrower towards the top. It was built during the 5th-4th century BC, and previously disturbed and robbed [Mansel 1940:93].
