It is situated at the confluence of the Aras (Araxes) River dividing two countries on the Armenian border with the streams from the mountains on the western section of the Igdir Plain on a very steep rocky mass overlooking the valley. It is the most important fortress of the region. It bears Medieval Age characteristics, but the stone courses composing the foundation of the intramural structures suggest early periods. A large amount of Iron Age and Medieval Age sherds were collected. |
