It is situated in the north of Karakale Village, 29 km north of Pasinler District in Erzurum Province. It overlooks the entire plain. The fortification walls were built using roughly dressed stone blocks in cyclopean technique. The thick fortification walls has survived up to a height of over 2 m. It has a rectangular-like plan, fortified with three bastions to the northeast and accessible from the southeast. The fortress has two entrances. One of them is located to the east edge. It measures 2.90 m in width and 6.50 m in height. The secon entrance locates to the west edge. The construction technique and pottery data reflect a typical Urartian Iron Age fortress [Başgelen 1987b; Üngör et al. 2014].
