Lying south of teh Sarigül (Haroglu) Village on the Elazig-Baskil motorway, 12 km northeast of the Baskil District in Elazig, it measures 30x60x15 m in dimensions. It is situated 15 m high above the road level. There are remains of structures with stone foundations. Although majority of the sherds collected from the surface are dated to the Middle Age, there are also Iron Age sherds. Being 30 km far from Harput, the mound is located on a historic road coming from the Euphrates region, adjoning at Baskil, and then leading to Elazig. Also, an Urartian fortress rises 3-4 km north of the Haroglu Mound, which is an indication of the strategic significance of this region. |
