Location: This site is 20-25 km east of the city of Erzurum; in an old riverbed 300 m south of the Erzurum-Hasankale highway; northwest of the village of Yukari Çakmak. The stream which is now dry used to flow into the Posi Stream.
Geography and Environment: We lack geographical and geomorphic information on this site.
History:
Research and Excavation: The site was discovered by Kemal Alot in 1942. Alot's finding; a single Palaeolithic tool; was later published by Senyürek.
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: Senyürek reports that this tool he describes as Levalloisien was originally an end scraper; and used later as a side scraper. The tool; made from organic basalt is worked only on one face [Senyürek 1944b:fig. 2]. The dimensions of this tool; which was found with a newly chipped break; are 10.3x5.7x2.2 cm.
