It lies approximately 500 m north-east of Çayhatap Village on the left side of the road while driving from the Çorum-Yozgat junction to Alaca, approximately 20 km southwest of Çorum. It was also visited in 1985 by D. French during his survey related with "Roman Roads and Milestones of Asia Minor". It is approximately 10 m above the plain level, and it measures in 250x200 m dimensions. It has been already cultivated. Several traces of illicit diggings are observed on the northern section, which is the highest part, particularly on the slopes, and among the deposit pile on the slopes were found some burnt mudbricks and sherds. Sherds collected from the surface are mostly dated to the Iron Age. Among them, some painted sherds from the Early Iron Age was found as well as fragment of a stone vessel on tripod legs, which are broken and missing. Furthermore among the sherds collected from the slopes are sherds dating to the Early Bronze Age and Old Hittite Kingdom period as well as sherds from the Iron Age and limited number of sherds from the Byzantine Period. Particulary the disturbed area on the northeastern slope yielded red slipped sherds with triangular handles (Ferzant type), which bear the characteristics of the Old Hittite Kingdom period. Çayhatap is one of the pretty large and partly well-peserved mounds after Sarmasa on the Çorum-Iskilip motorway within the borders of the Merkez District.
