The district was named after the mound (höyük in Turkish) which is located in the Tepe Quarter of the Höyük District in Konya. As it has been already obscured by the modern settlement, dimensions of the mound are not available. It was discovered in 1999 during the "Survey in the Provinces of Konya and Karaman" conducted under the direction of H. Bahar. Presence of Early Bronze Age, Iron Age, Ancient Period and Medieval settlements was identified. The Iron Age sherds are dated to the Middle and Late Iron Ages.
