The hill that rises on the east bank of Euphrates River in Elazig and named Küçük Höyük as well, is 70 m long in east-west direction, 30 m wide in north-south direction. It is 2.5 km west of Canbot Village which is underneath the dam reservoir at present. The mound was delimited by stream beds in east and west directions. Its west peak is a cone with a basis diameter of 15 m. The north, south and west of the hill are very steep and the southern skirts contain wall remains that suggest the presence of a fortification. Many Iron Age sherds were found on mound surface. Besides the sherds of ceramic ware decorated with many fluted horizontal lines between the rim and the edge of the body of the vessel, which is typical to the region, the presence of Iron Age ware is interesting. |
