It is also known as Tektop Tepe. It lies on the end of a cape projecting towards the sea, 6 km west of Intepe (Erenköy), southwest of the provincial center of Çanakkale. To the east of the hill, which commands the Çanakkale Strait on a steep cliff lies a dried stream bed. It was discovered in 1932 during the excavations at Troy by the Unversity of Cincinnati. J. Cook identifies Çoban Tepe with the settlement called Tavolia by J. Calvert. Sherds from the Early Bronze Age (Troy I) were found. Also collected are material from Troy VI and Classical Period.
