It is 25 km far from the sea; between Demre and Myros; west of Demre; southwest of Antalya Province. It is situated in the valley of the Demre Stream. J. Morganstern reports the presence of EBA pottery in Dereagzi between Karadag and valley of the Kasaba River. This rocky mound had been occupied during the Lycian Period. It became a castle during the Byzantine Period. During the survey conducted in parallel to the excavations carried out in the ancient city; pottery recovered from the surface exposed that the first settlement of this site probably dates back to the EBA. As the samples of red colored and burnished ware recovered in 1975 are comparable with the EBA ware of Elmali; they were precociously dated back to the EBA. |
