It is situated on the eastern slope of a rocky hill called Aslancevizli Mevkii, 300 m southeast of the Çulhali Village, 10 km from the Boyabat District. It measures 300x400 m in dimensions. It was named Kovuklu Kaya (Hollow Rock) due to a niche of 1.50x1.70x1.20 m on the rocky hill. The plan ground on the hilltop measuring 70x80 m was used as a cemetery during the Byzantine Period. A salvage excavation was performed by the Sinop Museum under the direction of Musa Özcan in 2002. Fragment of a Late Iron Age paint decorated strainer vessel and body fragment of a jug dating to the late phase of of Late Iron Age were found by S. Dönmez during excavations. |
