The site lies to the south of the road between the villages of Gülbahçe and Bagyolu; 600 m south of the village of Gülbahçe (Çerkestevfikiye); northwest of the province of Manisa. Kovanci Stream flows to its southwest. This area is locally known as Hocakirlar Mevkii. It is a flat and shallow mound in the middle of a plain. It was discovered by D.H. French in 1959. Red and gray/black burnished EBA sherds were collected from the surface. It was researched again by E. Akdeniz et al. in 2007 and the area was measured 100x50m, and the height 2 m. It is also known as Avlutepe or Gülbahçe. The surface of the mound contains a small amount of Late Chalcolithic Age and EBA sherds in addition to a large amount of 2nd Millenium BC sherds [Akdeniz 2009:260]. |
