A team from Gaziantep Museum directed by Fikri Kulakoğlu and Hamza Güllüce began excavation at this site in 2003, and continued in 2004. Soundings just outside and below the fortification wall revealed two layers of Early Bronze III deposits. A room with six pithoi sunk into the floor was cut into by two large stone-lined cist tombs. They contained much pottery, including Syrian bottles and fine green cups. The deep stratigraphic sounding (area C) was continued in 2004, cutting through a thick medieval terrace and a fill layer containing much prehistoric pottery. Lower down EB III deposits were again found, both stone house walls and another stone-lined cist. This tomb contained two burials with pottery, including a splendid fruitstand and painted vessels, and small metal gifts [Current Archaeology in Turkey; 24.11.2009, 11:33].
