Bozkurt Kurgan Cemetery is situated on the west skirts of Agri Mountain 16 km north of Dogubeyazit District in Agri Province. The cemetery covers an area approximately of 12 square km starting from Bozkurt Village towards north. The sherds collected on cemetery area's surface mostly belong to MBA and LBA/Early Iron Age. But sherds that belong to Late Chalcolithic Age, EBA and Medieval Age were found on Melecami rock, which is north of the village and in the southwest direction of the cemetery. They were found in the south of the Melecami rock, and further down in the sandy area on the village border. Since the basin water is too high in this area the condition of the finds are unidentifiable. These specimens belong to Kura-Aras culture. There are two ware groups which consist of the bicolor organic tempered and the cream slipped organic tempered ware. The fragments of the bicolor ware consist of brown and clay colored pastes. The black look of the surface and cross-sections are due to baking. These were slipped in the color of their paste, coarse or midsize tempered, mostly insufficiently or overbaked, burnished and hand-made. The vessels look blackish with clay or cream looking necks or rims due to different firing conditions. Cream slipped ware bear similar characteristics except their cream slipped external surfaces. Both groups are similar based on their forms; jugs have straight rims, long necks and oval bodies, and the bowls have basic or everted and open rims and round bodies. These forms are known from Kura-Aras wares and Nakhdjewan type of handles are also seen [Özfirat 2009:374]. The 2012 excavation were carried out in the trenches of S45, S46 and S47. As it was mentioned in previous years, the settlements belonging to the Late Chalcolithic and EBA periods are located in Melecami Höyük. There are kurgans dated to the MBA and LBA on top of both levels. These kurgans have severely damaged the earlier levels. The excavations yielded potsherds, bone tools, obsidian tool and flakes dated to the Late Chalcolithic-EBA. However, none of these findings were recovered from safe contexts [Özfirat-Coskun 2014:146].
