It lies 3.2 km west-southwest of Çatmaoluk Village; west of Samsun Province. There are remains of a wall approximately 5 m high and made up with retouched stones. Immediate southeast of the site stands the mountain Kulacadag and a stream flow in the same direction. It was discovered by U.B. Alkim in 1972 and dated to EBA. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The fortress appears in the Samsun Culture Inventory which was achieved after the surveys organized by the Samsun Special Provincial Administration Directorship of Development and Construction in 2009. It is located at a dominating position for the valley. The fortress is about 350 m in length, 50-70 m in width. It is surrounded by the city wall with a length of 1 km and 4.5-5 m in height. The city wall was adapted to the topography since the hill where the fortress was built is covered with rocks. The big part of the city wall is still embedded to the ground and it was built in cyclopean technique by using piled up large stone blocks. The spaces between the walls were filled with small stones. The curves of the city wall are rounded. In the middle of the fortress, a ridge which is thought to be a mound has been seen.
Location: It is a fortified settlement which lies 2 km to the south of the Yeniköy Quarter in the Çatmaoluk Village, 18 km to the southwest of Samsun.
Geography and Environment: It was founded on the steep slope of a high plateau. To the south, north, and west, it is delimited by the Karadere Brook, a tributary of the Kürtün Stream spilling into the Black Sea, and its tributaries.
