It is a settlement surrounded by fortifications on a high hill with a steep cliff on the east side, named "Asar" by the local people, west of the Kalem Village center in Milas District of Mugla. It was discovered during the survey performed by A. Kizil and I.Ö. Öztekin in 2007. Except for the side with the steep cliff the settlement was surrounded by a fortification constructed with drywall technique consisting of rectagonal stone blocks which were roughly worked. The walls have a thickness of 0.90 m and there are towers on the wall that measure 3.80x3.20 m. The towers were built right adjacent to the wall and have organic connections with the wall. Therefore It may be asserted that these towers may have been added to the walls during a later period. Rectangular rooms are observed that intensify particularly in the north section inside the fortifications. Most of the buildings inside the settlement contain rooms inside in various dimensions, which were unveiled mostly through illicit diggings. In situ workshops were identified inside the buildings. Inside the area in the north where ground stones, grinding bed and press beds were encountered the presence of workshops is more intense. The fortifications were supported by towers during Hellenistic period, its first phase was made in Classical Period. A black firnissed sherd that was revealed increases the probability of this [Kizil-Öztekin 2009:296].
