Kele Tepe
Type:
Slope Settlement
Altitude:
618 m
Region:
Southeastern Anatolia
Province:
Batman
District:
Besiri
Village:
Kütüklü
Investigation Method:
Survey
Period:

It was researched within the scope of the "Palaeolithic Age Survey at the Ilisu Dam Reservoir Area" performed by H. Taskiran and M. Kartal in 2007. Chipped flintstone fragments were found infrequently on the south slopes of the hill which overlooks the valley 2.5 km west of Kütüklü Village north of the path that leads to Kütüklü from Düsadek hamlet in Besiri District of Batman Province. One of the finds is a small obsidian flake. Among the chipped stone finds cores constitute the majority. The cores have not gone through many preparation phases and the specimens with single grip can be found more frequently than others. Some of these cores are suitable for the production of blades and bladelets and it is hard to suggest their connection with any of the technological groups. Neither the flakes nor the blades reflect any specific technology. The flake which is the single obsidian find belongs to an unidentifiable period (code: S62/19) [Taskiran-Kartal 2009:398].
