It is on the eastern slopes of Mahara Crest that lowers towards the Sinnibogaz Dere approximately 250 m east of the findings location Nr2 of Mahara Crest in the Kesmeköprü Village at Merkez District of Batman Province. It has a steep declination. Çayir Cave is in the north of this area. But this area is more of a shelter within the bedrock than a cave, and it is poor in terms of Palaeolithic finds. It was discovered during the Ilisu Dam Area Palaeolithic Age Survey performed by H. Taskiran and M. Kartal in 2006. The chipped stone specimens at the findings' site are very rare. 5 silex cores, 15 flakes, 7 blades, 2 bifacial tools were found. Among the chipped stone finds Levallois and Clactonian and bifacial technologies can be observed. Generally laminar chipping was performed. Jagged, denticulated, notched side scraper tool specimens are also among the flakes and blades. It was coded T62/11 [Taskiran-Kartal 2008:442]. |
