History:
Research and Excavation: Aharköy Höyük is 5 km north of the Demirci Höyuk settlement. The Demirci Höyuk excavation team made a detailed analysis and collected sherds and chipped stone examples during the Kütahya; Bilecik and Eskisehir survey. It was revisited in 1988 as a part of the survey conducted by T. Efe followed by a dense surface collection and a re-analysis. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Stratigraphy: Aharköy Höyük is a small mound of the Eskisehir region. It is interesting with its EBA settlement which was not found at Demirci Höyuk; Eskisehir. T. Efe stated that there are EBA II and III wares as well as the Phrygian and the Ancient Age sherds on its surface.
Small Finds: Pottery: The surface finds were thoroughly analyzed and introduced by T. Efe who stated that the ware in the upper building levels of Demircihöyük demonstrates a certain development in itself. Among the surface finds of Aharköy; there are typical black rimmed bowls. Samples of grit tempered ware/metallic ware which were not found at Demircihöyük as well as grey washed ware introduced at the end of EBA II and thin washed/mottled ware were recovered. Some are very well burnished. Sherds of carinated bowls are interesting. Spouted vessels have distinctive forms compared to the samples of Demircihöyük.
Remains:
Interpretation and Dating: The development of the Demirci Höyuk EBA culture was determined with the help of those finds dating from the end of EBA II and beginning of EBA III. The excavation planned for Aharköy will shed light onto the architectural development aside small finds.
