It is situated on a small fertile valley; 7 km northeast of the Sarkikaraagac District; northeast of the Isparta Province. It was visited by J.R.S. Sterrett; W.M. Ramsay and W.M. Calder in different periods; and several remains such as inscribed steles; architrave blocks; sarcophagus fragments and columns from the Roman Period were observed. Among them; an inscription dedicated to Meter Zizimene proves that the plain was included within the territorium of a tetrapolis. The tetrapolis called Killanian by Strabo consisted of the cities called Anaboura; Altada; and Neapolis and probably Killana [Calder 1956:xiii]. Based on the inscriptions; Calder regarded Killana as the center of the tetrapolis and localized the city in the Çariksaraylar Village [Calder 1932:454-455]. |
