It has been obscured by the Enevre Village; approximately 12 km southwest of the Sarkikaraagac District; northeast of the Isparta Province. It was one of the most significant cities in the region during the 2nd century B.C. [Strabo 12; 7; 2]. She was part of the Killanian Tetrapolis together with Altada; Neapolis and probably Killana [Calder 1956:xiii] (See Çariksaraylar and Neapolis). It seems that the city lost its significance as it was far from the Via Sebaste; which was constructed during the Roman Period. The ancient city was investigated by a team under the direction of M. Ozsait on behalf of the University of Istanbul in 2001; and by Drew-Bear in 2002. Among the remains from the 2nd century A.D. are an inscribed victory monument with a warrior relief and some fragments which might have belonged to a pedimented grave monument. Another fragment; which probably belonged to the same grave monument; was unearthed at Ordekçi (see Ordekçi). Remains of the odeion are traceable on a hill near the village; and it is presumed that nearby there was a sanctuary [Özsait 2003:239]. |
