The centrum of Burdur is situated in fron of the hills recently wooded which lie in parallel to the lake; approximately 4 km far from the eastern shores of the Lake of Burdur. It is believed that the name Burdur originated from the name Polydorion used for this region during the Middle Age. The only settlement which might have been obscured by the provincial center may have been a village within the territorium of Sagalassos [Bean 1959: 78].
