It lies on the southern slopes of Akdag to the southeast of the Burdur Province. The District was named after the ancient city of Sagalassos; which is located 5 km to the north (see Sagalassos). It is believed that the name Aglasun originated from "Agalassos" referred by Hierocles [Hierocles 673; 6]. During the surveys carried out under the leadership of M. Waelkens on behalf of the Catholic University of Leuven; winter farms; villas and several types of graves; particularly belonging to the wealthy people during the Roman Period at Sagalassos were found at the center of Aglasun and its vicinity. The stones of the remains from the ancient city and above mentioned settlement were re-used in the modern buildings at the district center [Bean 1959:71-72]. Further from a narrow road at the 4th km of the Aglasun-Isparta road; remains of a bridge from the Roman Period crossing over the Aglasun Brook and a milestone next to the bridge were seen. The milestone which was dated to the Severuses Period should have belonged to the Roman road between Sagalassos and Cremna. The road was probably strecthing from the southeast of Sagalassos to the Devri Strait; and then down to the Valley of Aksu before reaching to Cremna.
