The survey condcuted by Bean and Cook in 1950s at the beginning of the Orak Gulf and the island opposite to it; southeast of the Bodrum District of the Muğla Province yielded some architectural remains; and it was reported that there was an enclosed building on Karaada (Arkonnesos) with an unknown function [Bean-Cook 1955:134]. No information is available about the dating. It is assumed that these ruins which were analized in 2008 by Diler and Gümüs during the survey at Karaada could belong to a "shrine". The walls of this structure reaches 5 m, and only the southwest corner was destroyed. The walls that delimit the shrine's land in four directions were intact except for the north part. The shrine land contains two gates in the northwest and southeast directions. The west wall that encloses the shrine land and the south wall that it connects with, contain a corner with a retaining wall. Based on the elaborate masonry similar to Alazeytin Fortress and Pedasa walls and the neatness of blocks used for the construction of the walls it is assumed to have been built around 7th-6th century BC. Due to the lack of a find from the upper portion of the structure it is assumed that it was a wooden building [Diler-Gümüş 2010:113-114].
