Location: The cave site of Büyük Magara lies near Hayitligöl; 8 km west of the Kumbucagi Rock-Shelter. This rock shelter is northwest of the village of Beldibi; which is southwest of the city of Antalya. |
Geography and Environment: It has been reported that the cave is at the bottom of a large stone cliff. The dimensions of the cave have not been given. |
History: |
Research and Excavation: Enver Bostanci of Ankara University DTCF; Department of Prehistoric Archaeology discovered this site during his surface survey in the town of Kemer and in the village of Beldibi. |
Stratigraphy: |
Small Finds: Bostanci reports that he found numerous chipped stone tools including flakes and blades at this site. Even though in one of his publications he mentions that he opened a test trench in the cave; there has been no reference to excavations since. Interestingly; in another publication it is reported that no tools were ever found. Although the finds have not been assigned to a period; it can be deduced that these tools are Epipalaeolithic like those from nearby caves and sites. |
