It is located on a mountaineous area in an overlooking situation between the valleys of Marsyas and Harpasos; 30 km south of the Bozdogan District of the Aydin Province. Called as Kyon by Stephanus Byzantinus; it is known that the city was re-named as Kanebeion; and Palaiopolis based on the information obtained from an inscription. It was visited by Cousin and Deschamps during the 19th century; followed by a survey of Laumonier in 1940s. The acropolis is situated above a rocky strait with a brook flowing down. Although rows of seats belonging to a theatre were identified in the village; no finds of the stage building were found. The coins are from the1st century BC [Bean 1976:473]. |
