It is located near the Basaran Village; 20 km east of the Nazilli District of the Aydin Province. Besides the data provided as a result of a visit by Hamilton during the first half of the 19th century and a survey carried out by Laumonier in 1940s; some information is provided by the ancient writers. It was founded as a result of incorporation of the cities of Symmaithos and Cranaos by the Antiochus I [Pliny 5; 29; 108] . Strabo [Strabo 13; 4; 15] informs that both sides of the river have very large fields; and the area was included in a fault line resulting in earthquakes. It was established at the junction of the Morsynos (Dandelaz) Brook and Maiandros. Although it was informed that its significance was increased as a result of a bridge built over Maiandros; no traces of such a bridge were found. Re-used material was found in the castle on the tophill from the Middle Age. Although there is no architectural remains on the surface; it is believed that a theatre is located on the northwestern area. The surveys conducted during the 19th century yielded remains of buildings; arches; large acropolis walls and a stadium 800 m to the east [Bean 1976:61; Sevin 2001:116].
