Two West Anatolian type violin-shaped marble idols are claimed to be found in Agin Village; 6 km south of Suhut; southwest of Afyonkarahisar Province. The neck and head of those two idols are combined in the form of a handle. The upper parts of the sack-shaped body bears two cavities to assemble the arms. The arms are short. S. Alp considers them to represent a goddess [Alp 1965:6]. Similar finds recovered at Beycesultan at the end of EBA I makes them easy to be dated. Likes of those idols were recovered from Yortan and Karacaahmet. This site is not illustrated in the EBA map of the guide prepared by the Afyon Archaeological Museum. Furthermore; there is no sign for any EBA settlement around the village. |
