Sherds of grooved ware, remarkably of the Eraly Iron Age, were found in the former Ergani settlement at Zülküfdag in the Ergani Plain, however no evidence has been obtained for the presence of a big center. While the Plain of Ergani had been frequently occupied as it had suitable settlement conditions for first settlement groups in early times, the wide and rich mining reserves contributed more to the significance of this region, particularly during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Thus, the historical roads, particularly the Valley of Tigris should have been screened in this respect [Özdogan 1990:463]. |
