The mound; inundated by a dam; used to lie northwest of Batman; west of Kozluk; southwest of Remdenka Stream. The Batman Brook and its tributaries, Sason, Hiyan and Ramdenka would be elevated up to 665 m as a result of rise of the water with the construction of the Ilisu Dam, which will cover an area around 40 km to the north of Batman. Therefore, surveys were conducted in the region in 1990 by the sponsorship of TEKDAM and financial support of the Museum of Pennsylvania University. During these surveys, it was found out that there was a wide settlement area inhabited during the Iron Age at Baskale. Several Iron Age ceramics were found at Ramdenka Çay Mevkii and along the Batman Brook. In addition to Baskale, presence of Iron Age settlements were identified at Herema Tarlasi, Giriharaba, and Küçük Gelek Hill, which lie alongside the Batman Brook and its tributaries [Rosenberg 1992:448-453; Rosenberg-Togul 1991:249]. At present, it has been flooded by the reservoir waters.
