It stands on a flat outcrop extending to a plain near Karahasin Village; 30-35 km southeast of Kahramanmaras Province. It looks like a tumulus from a distance. It was excavated in 1959 by a legal permission for treasure exploration. The treasure hunters dug a trench of 5x3 m deep into 10.6 m. K. Kökten was appointed to cover this pit and evaluate the finds. Kökten reports 5 levels as seen from the section of this trench/dig: The Roman and Ottoman Periods on the top level is followed by the Hittite Period. Presence of an EBA level with two phases is also seen from the same section. At the lowest part; a Neolithic level was identified. The material recovered during the excavation is preserved at the Maras Archaeological Museum. No further information was provided about the EBA finds. It is called Bozhüyük III to prevent any confusion with other Bozhüyük settlements. |
