It is located 16 km from modern Dogubeyazit on the Dogubeyazit-Igdir highway inside the borders of the Igdir Province. It covers an area extending to both sides of the highway in north-south direction. The settlement also extends to the skirts of Agri Mountain; east of Elma Lake at 1554 m altitude. It was researched within the scope of "Erzincan; Erzurum; Kars and Igdir Provinces Survey" performed by Alpaslan Ceylan et al. in 2005. Although the settlement was heavily destructed; the streets; and the walls of the oval and square planned residences were preserved up to a height of 1 Ð 2 m. The settlement was built with volcanic rocks just as it was in Igdir in general; onto a land that was covered with volcanic rocks. The fortress in the northeast of the settlement provided for its defense; and it is seen that the settlement which was founded at the end of a strategical valley is one of the biggest in Igdir region. Based on the pottery finds it was an EBA as well as a Middle Age settlement [Ceylan 2007:174-175]. |
