Inundated by Atatürk Dam Lake; the 15 m high mound; measuring 120 m in diameter; used to lie south-southeast of Adiyaman; on east bank of Euphrates; below Biricik village. Euphrates flows by the southern; and Küçük Tepe flows by the western side of the mound. The site was first visited during the Asagi Firat Havzasi Survey in 1977; and then re-visited by the excavation team of Kurban Höyük in 1982-84. The sherds date to the Late Chalcolithic Age and EBA Transition Phase. The existence of dark-faced burnished ware suggests earlier periods. There are also Classical Period and Medieval Age sherds. The location code of the site is U 50 / 1. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
