It is situated at an altitude of 2010 m, 300 m west of the former Kars motorway, west of the Çildir Lake, 1.5 km east of the Gölbelen Village in the Çildir District of Ardahan. The fortress is north-south oriented, and measures 375x125 m in dimensions. The eastern slope is steep, while the southern slope has a smooth declination. It was built on a natural hill overlooking the region as part of a large mountain range. A building of 55x35 m on the southern end of the fortress seems to have served like a security-providing structure for the citadel's entrance with its walls composed of a substructure of small stones over a superstructure of 3 m wide large coarse stones and with an entrance on the southwestern end. It was found out that the andesite stones used in the construction of the fortress were brought from the quarry adjacent to the Gölbelen Village to the west of the fortress. The fortress was enclosed by two rows of defense walls. Incision decorated and paint decorated ceramics and abundant number of obsidians were found. The ceramics bear characteristic features of the Late Chalcolithic, EBA, Iron Age and Middle Age pottery.
