The find spot lies on the western bank of Seyhan stream; between the villages of Inardi and Yenice; in the district of Bismil; province of Diyarbakir. The area to the east of the stream is locally called Cahteri Mevkii. According to the survey conducted by H. Taskiran and M. Kartal; the finds are not homogeneous. The pebble tools found in the river bed were probably swept in this area because most of them have strong patinas due to dragging. One of the three bifaced tools collected was found half buried in the river bed. This bifaced tool has a typical almond form and belongs to the Upper Acheuleen tradition. the tips of other two are broken and have brown patinas due to dragging. The cores have Levallois tips; are flaked and bipolar recurrent. A large blade core was also found. Among the tools made on flakes; notched tools and side scrapers are abundant. When the assemblage is evaluated in general; Lower and Middle Palaeolithic elements are in majority. However; some types resembling the Upper Palaeolithic are also interesting. |
