The site is located immediately north of the Bismil-Tepe motorway; 2 km southeast of Bismil district of Diyarbakir Province. The southern part of the mound has been destructed by taking soil. It is approximately 60 m in diameter and 5 m in height. The site has been discovered by G. Algaze and researched again by a team conducted by Y. Miyake during 2003 Season Salat Cami Yani and Lower Bismil Survey; as a part of METU TAÇDAM Salvage Project of the Archaeological Heritage of the Ilisu and Carchemish Dam Reservoirs. There are a few sherds dated Obeid Period and one of them has painted decorations in both exterior and interior surfaces. There is also Late Chalcolithic pottery seen on surface; but the most of the finds are dated to Iron Age and Roman Period. Code S59/1. |
