It lies north of the road running to Eski Foça; about 13 km northwest of Menemen District; north of Izmir Province. It was discovered in 1949 by a team under Muzaffer Senyürek during a regional survey of the Höyücek excavations. Vast majority of the material collected belongs to the Classical Period of which some architectural finds were also uncovered. Pottery of the Archaic; Hellenistic; Roman and probably Byzantine Periods were recovered. Sherds of the handmade; red washed ware and flint tools collected are contemporary with Troy I-II. It is located immediate south of Araptepe as if it is an extension of it. |
